Janice Brown II: The Pathetic Democrats
NY Times: “Seeing Slavery in Liberalism,” by David D. Kirkpatrick, June 9, 2005.
Well, dudes, how much is there to say about this ???
For two years, Senate Democrats were able to hold off the nomination of Janice Brown to the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, defining her as too extreme, and out of the judicial “mainstream,” however THAT may be defined.
This was one of the rare instances in which they showed either commitment to principle or the most minimal courage in the face of the Republican onslaught.
But at the first sign the Republicans were ready to play hard-ball by invoking the nuclear option, the pathetic Democrats just caved in –
so now we’re going to have to live with Priscilla Owen, William “Ten Commandments” Pryor, and, most frightening of all, Janice “Slavery Is Freedom” Rogers Brown.
As far as I’m concerned, responsibility for this shameful situation should be laid squarely at the feet of the gutless Senate Democrats.
If a white man said the things she says, he’d be strung up – and rightly so …
But the Democrats are so pathetically intimidated by the Republicans on the one hand – and their OWN fear of identity politics on the other –
that they have acquiesced in the lifetime appointment to the second most important court of someone who consciously conflates one of most forward movements in American history – the New Deal – with slavery …
She’s clearly insane.
But how about the Democrats going along with letting someone so poisonous be appointed.
How fucking pathetic – to, once again, use that word – is that ???
Disgusting – all the way around.

Yup. After all of this talk about Howard Dean not being the spokesman for the party ... . Well, no one else has taken hold of the steering wheel. Joe Biden, John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Hillary Clinton, you're all fucking backseat drivers! Sit down and shut up.

The Democrats continue to delude themselves that "they won". As I wrote earlier this could not have turned out worse for them.
Bush's game seems to be to appoint the least qualified, most clearly unsuited people he can find to important or lifetime posts, knowing the Democrats don't have the nerve to call him on it, and the media is completely tamed.
In terms of elected Democrats and Howard Dean, the ones complaining should follow Hillary's advice of last week and, "....grow a spine.....". What a beyond pathetic bunch.
